“Bryce’s contributions rival and even surpass those of someone who lived a very long life,” Cherng said. Cherng said the chemotherapy that followed failed to stop Bludevich from writing multiple peer-reviewed publications, creating a transitional residency curriculum for UMass Chan medical students, developing a residents-as-educators pathway for surgical residents interested in education and helping implement a virtual general surgery residency interview process when the pandemic hit. Bludevich was diagnosed with melanoma her second year of residency. Cherng, MD, assistant professor of surgery, a close friend and co-resident, spoke of Bludevich’s kindness and devotion to improving surgical residency. Founded in 1902 at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago, today there are 131 chapters and more than 160,000 members have been elected to AOA. Also, note that national dues are separate from local AOA chapter dues. Alpha Omega Alpha is the national medical honor society. If national dues are not paid, the national AOA office will not verify AOA status for organizations that request such verification. National AOA dues are paid to the national office to support the overall AOA organization, and are required to be paid in order for a member to list AOA on their CV as being active members. Mississippi has its own chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha.
